Teaching Philosophy
Studio-Based Learning | Standards-Aligned Curriculum | Differentiated Instruction | Student Voice & Creative Thinking❋ Overview
My teaching practice is grounded in a visual arts curriculum aligned with the National Core Arts Standards and the NYC DOE Blueprint for Teaching and Learning in Visual Arts. Through hands-on studio experiences, students engage in the creative processes of creating, responding, and connecting to works of art.
Students explore the Elements of Art and Principles of Design through a variety of media and materials. I aim to create a classroom environment where students feel encouraged to experiment, take creative risks, and develop confidence in their artistic voice.
My passion for teaching was inspired by the educators who shaped my own learning experience. Their encouragement and dedication showed me how meaningful teaching can be.
I strongly believe art education supports students far beyond the classroom. Through art-making, students develop:
• Creative confidence
• Critical thinking and problem-solving skills
• Resilience through experimentation and revision
• The ability to express ideas and perspectives visually
❋ Why I TeachMy curriculum aligns with the National Core Arts Standards and the NYC DOE Blueprint for Teaching and Learning in Visual Arts while supporting cross-curricular connections and cultural awareness.
Students explore:
• The Elements of Art and Principles of Design
• Art history and influential artists across cultures and time periods
• Diverse artistic traditions and cultural perspectives
• Studio practices including drawing, painting, collage, sculpture, printmaking, and mixed media
Choice-based projects encourage students to experiment with materials, communicate ideas visually, and develop their own artistic voice.
❋ What I TeachI design lessons that support diverse learners through differentiated instruction, clear demonstrations, and structured studio routines.
Instruction includes:
• Visual examples and step-by-step modeling
• Scaffolded learning for diverse abilities
• Opportunities for creative exploration and student choice
• Collaborative discussions and art critiques
Assessment includes rubrics, formative feedback, and student reflection, helping students take ownership of their learning and artistic growth.
By building strong relationships and maintaining high expectations, I create an inclusive studio environment where all students feel supported, confident, and inspired to create.
